Quick answer
Weekends and public holidays can slow business funding because some payments only settle on business days, signatories are harder to reach and state public holidays differ around Australia. Enquiring early on a weekday, finishing signing before the break and planning around your state's holidays keeps funding within 24 hours realistic.
Key points
- Some payments only settle on business days
- State public holidays differ across Australia
- Signatories are harder to reach on weekends
- Plan funding around long weekends and Christmas
Deadlines do not respect the calendar. Wages are still due on the Tuesday after a long weekend, and the supplier still wants paying before Christmas. Understanding how weekends and public holidays affect funding helps you plan around them instead of being caught out.
What still happens on a weekend
You can enquire at any time. Some lenders can review an enquiry outside business hours, and electronic signing works whenever signatories are available. Eligible real-time payments can move between participating accounts on weekends. So parts of the process can keep going.
What usually waits for a business day
- Batch payments generally settle on business days only.
- Property registrations depend on registry processing.
- Payout figures from other lenders are usually issued in business hours.
- Bank-side checks on large payments may wait for staff.
- Your accountant, lawyer or conveyancer may be unavailable.

The fast-funding timeline
| Stage | Typical timing | What speeds it up |
|---|---|---|
| Enquiry | About 60 seconds | Accurate figures for amount and revenue |
| First call | Minutes, in business hours | Answering an unknown number |
| Approval | As fast as 15 minutes, commonly within the hour | Statements via a secure bank link |
| Signing | Same day | Directors and guarantors on standby |
| Funds | Within 24 hours possible | Payee details ready, including the ATO or supplier |
Public holidays differ by state
Australia has national public holidays and many state and territory ones. Labour Day falls on different dates in different states. Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and the ACT each have their own days, and some regional areas have local show holidays. If any party to the loan, or the creditor you are paying, is in a state with a holiday, timing can shift.
| Period | Watch out for |
|---|---|
| Christmas to New Year | Several public holidays, business shutdowns, staff leave |
| Easter | Four-day weekend in most of Australia |
| Long weekends | Different dates for Labour Day and the King’s Birthday by state |
| Local show days | Regional public holidays in some areas |
The Friday afternoon problem
The classic trap is a Friday afternoon approval. Everyone signs by 4.30pm, but a batch payment released after the last processing window may not land until Monday. If the money is needed for a Monday morning payroll, that is fine. If it is needed by Friday evening, it is not. Tell the assessor exactly when and where the money must arrive, and plan the day around it.
Christmas needs its own plan
The Christmas period combines public holidays, business shutdowns and staff leave across banks, lenders, accountants and suppliers. Wages and super still fall due, and many businesses are at their busiest. Arrange any funding you will need before mid-December. Our Christmas cash crunch plan has a week-by-week checklist.
A worked example (illustrative)
A hospitality group needs funds for wages due on the Tuesday after the Easter long weekend. The owner enquires on the Wednesday before Easter, is approved the same day and has both directors sign on Thursday morning. Funds land on Thursday afternoon, before the four-day break. Had the owner waited until Thursday afternoon to enquire, the money might not have landed until Tuesday, cutting it fine.
Planning checklist
- Check upcoming public holidays in every state involved.
- Enquire at least two business days before a long weekend.
- Confirm signatories are not travelling over the break.
- Ask the lender about payment timing around holidays.
- For Christmas, arrange funding in November or early December.
Holidays for your signatories, too
Public holidays are when people travel. A director who is camping without reception over Easter cannot sign, however fast everything else moves. Ask every signatory about their plans when a deadline falls near a break. If someone will be away, see whether they can sign before they go, or whether the structure allows another director to sign. A five-minute conversation before the holiday can save a four-day wait after it.
The end of financial year is not a holiday, but it behaves like one
The last week of June is not a public holiday, yet it can slow things in similar ways. Accountants are flat out, businesses rush to buy equipment before 30 June, and some lenders see a surge of enquiries. If you need funding around EOFY, start early in June. Our EOFY speed guide covers the details.
What lenders will ask for
Before you start, check you can lay your hands on:
- A list of public holidays in every state involved
- Signatories’ travel plans for the break
- Payroll and supplier due dates around the holiday
- Bank statements and ID ready before the long weekend
Speed bumps to avoid
The usual suspects when things drag:
- Enquiring on the last afternoon before a long weekend
- Directors out of reception over Easter or Christmas
- Forgetting a state-specific public holiday
- Assuming a creditor’s office will be open

Terms used in this guide
- Payout figure: the exact amount needed to repay a loan in full on a given day, including interest and fees.
- Guarantor: a person who agrees to repay the loan if the borrower cannot.
Questions worth asking before you sign
- How is the amount offered worked out?
- Is there a valuation, and if not, how is the property assessed?
- What fees apply at the start, during the term and at the end?
- Can I extend if the sale or refinance is delayed?
- Will you check my credit file, and when?
One request before you enquire
Accuracy is the most underrated speed tool there is. A revenue figure that matches the bank statements, a credit history that matches the file and an amount that matches the purpose let an assessor say yes quickly. Optimistic answers do the opposite: they trigger extra questions, a second look and sometimes a different product altogether. Take an extra minute on the form and you can save a day on the approval.
In a nutshell
- Some payments only settle on business days
- State public holidays differ across Australia
- Signatories are harder to reach on weekends
- Plan funding around long weekends and Christmas
Inside a fast approval
There is nothing magic about fast funding. It is mostly about removing waiting time. We ask for the right evidence at the start instead of drip-feeding requests, we do not need a valuation on property-secured loans, and documents are signed online rather than posted. That is why a decision within the hour is common and why money can be in your account within 24 hours. The part we cannot control is how quickly signatures and documents come back, so having them ready makes the biggest difference.
Let’s get it moving
Approval within the hour is common once the right details are in, so the fastest move is to get them in. There is no credit check to enquire, your information is not shopped around, and a person reads every enquiry. Please be accurate on the form so we can match you first time. Get started.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a business loan approved on a weekend?
Enquiries can be made any time. Assessment and payment timing depend on business days and the payment route.
Do public holidays in my state affect funding?
They can, if a bank or registry in your state is closed. Check the calendar when a deadline falls near a holiday.
What about the Christmas period?
Christmas and New Year combine public holidays with shutdowns. Arrange funding well before mid-December.
Is it worth enquiring on a Friday afternoon?
Yes, to start the process, but expect funds early the next week unless everything is complete that day.
